After retirement, Mr. Sails continued serving through volunteer roles with the Uptown Kiwanis Club, 100 Black Men of Tampa Bay, Inc., the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Black Community Relations Committee, and the Hillsborough County Black Chamber of Commerce.

He previously served as president of NOBLE Florida, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. During his leadership, he was instrumental in helping restructure the statewide organization into Southern, Central, and Northern chapters. This change allowed members to communicate, participate, and operate more effectively within their respective regions.

For the past two years, Mr. Sails has also assisted the Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce with fundraising and its annual October celebration.

Mr. Sails's volunteer service primarily focuses on youth, families, future public safety professionals, and underserved communities. Through the Uptown Kiwanis Club and partnerships with local public safety agencies and community organizations, he has participated in children's reading activities, book giveaways, sock distributions, youth outreach, and the sharing of health and community resource information.

He has also volunteered at local food-distribution events, helping provide food and other essential support to individuals and families in need.

From 2021 through 2025, Mr. Sails and his family awarded four scholarships in honor of his grandson, Malik Keyon Sails, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 19. These scholarships preserve Malik's memory while supporting young people in pursuing their educational goals.

Following his retirement from the Sheriff's Office, Mr. Sails served as the corrections coordinator for corrections recruits at Hillsborough Community College. In this position, he organized instruction, coordinated qualified instructors, and helped prepare recruits for careers in corrections.

He emphasized safety, professionalism, discipline, and the practical knowledge recruits would need to build successful careers in public safety. One of the most rewarding parts of this work has been meeting former recruits who later shared how his teaching, encouragement, or guidance positively affected their lives.

Mr. Sails later transitioned into real estate and became a real estate professional with Align Right Realty. He enjoys helping individuals and families find homes and investment properties that meet their needs. His approach is not focused solely on making a sale. He wants clients to be satisfied, comfortable, and confident in their decisions.

Mr. Sails's story demonstrates that retirement from public safety does not mean retirement from service. He continues to use his experience, leadership, relationships, and compassion to support young people, families, public safety professionals, scholarship recipients, and community organizations.

His service also shows how personal loss can be transformed into a meaningful legacy. The scholarships awarded in Malik's honor create opportunities for young people while keeping his grandson's memory alive.

Through teaching, mentoring, charitable giving, community involvement, and personal example, Mr. Sails has positively influenced recruits, youth, families, homebuyers, and community members.

He believes adults have a responsibility to provide young people with the guidance, values, knowledge, and tools they need to succeed. His continued service encourages current and former public safety professionals to remain involved and use their experience to strengthen their communities.

Mr. Sails identifies his highest priorities in life as God, family, and friends. He believes meaningful relationships are built through kindness, openness, and genuine concern for others.
